Bafana Bafana brace themselves for Uganda match
South Africa are set to take on Uganda in their Group K Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier at the Mandela Stadium in Kampala on Friday afternoon.
Kick-off is at 15:00 CAT (SA, GMT+2)
Both sides will be putting their unbeaten records on the line and a win for either team will guarantee them a spot in the tournament to be hosted in Morocco next year.
Uganda have defied the odds in this qualifying campaign, as they were regarded as third favourites to make it out of the group.
The Cranes are currently occupying first place in the group and the only time they dropped points was when they faced Bafana Bafana and Thalente Mbatha saved the day with his goal, denying them a famous victory.
After many years of underperforming on the international stage, South Africa are in decent form and even finished third in the last AFCON tournament.
Bafana Bafana’s attacking output has also improved greatly, with the team scoring 11 goals in the qualifiers compared to four goals between September and November last year leading up to the tournament in Ivory Coast.
However, the visitors might have a concern that they would be without some important attacking players for this month’s games, such as Lyle Foster who plays for Burnley, who scored two goals for the side in the campaign.
