Bafana defeat Uganda in Kampala, topping Group K

The South African national team defeated Uganda 2-0 at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala in their AFCON qualifier on Friday afternoon. Bafana Bafana went into the game on a high note as it was confirmed yesterday that the team has officially qualified for the next AFCON tournament which will be hosted by Morocco. The South Africans showed attacking prowess from the onset and caused a number of problems for Uganda’s backline. Elias Mokwana came close to opening the scoring for the visitors when a deep pass from the wing by Aubrey Modiba made it’s way into the box but the goalkeeper Ismail Watenga came to the rescue. The teams went into the half-time break with nothing separating them at the Mandela National Stadium. Bafana Bafana grabbed the lead in the 49th minute when Thapelo Morena who came on as substitute found some inspiration and got the ball into the back of the net. The Cranes began searching for the equalising goal with coach Paul Put having brought on France-based attacker Jamal Mutyaba. The South Africans held their ground well into the 80th minute of play and Ronwen Williams guarded his net well as he eyed a clean sheet in the match. Patrick Maswanganyi would double the lead for Bafana Bafana in the 89th minute as he finished after being set-up nicely by Iqraam Rayners. The result means that Bafana are now leaders of Group K and the team will now look on to their clash against Sudan at the DHL Stadium on Tuesday.
