Pirates snap up rising Bafana Bafana star

Orlando Pirates have announced the signing of seven new players ahead of the upcoming season, including Bafana Bafana newcomer Sinoxolo Kwayiba.

The Buccaneers made the announcement on 26 June, releasing a statement on the club’s official website.

Kwayiba made his debut for Bafana Bafana on 6 June in an international friendly against Tanzania. The 25-year-old came on in the 68th minute, replacing Patrick Maswanganyi in the middle of the park.

In his second game for the national side, Kwayiba earned man-of-the-match in Bafana Bafana’s 2-0 victory over Mozambique in an international friendly at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on 10 June. He opened the scoring in the 47th minute, bagging his first goal for the national side.

Kwayiba scored six goals in 25 Betway Premiership games for Chippa United last season, and is leaving the club after two seasons at the Eastern Cape based outfit.

The Buccaneers have also signed Yanela Mbuthuma from Richards Bay, Masindi Nemtajela from Marumo Gallants, Tshepang Moremi from Amazulu, Nkosikhona Ndaba from Richards Bay, Tshepo Mashiloane from Baroka, and Sihle Nduli from Stellenbosch.

The players will join their new teammates for the first day of preseason on 26 June and undergo medical and physical assessments, followed by an “induction process that all new players undergo,” according to the club’s statement.

“While for the next two days, focus will be on integration and assessments, the real work begins next week, when [the] head coach and his technical staff will take the reins for the formal start of the football side of preseason,” the statement reads.
