COSAFA Cup Match Preview: Bafana Bafana chase key win in COSAFA Cup

Bafana Bafana will play their final Group A game of the 2025 COSAFA Cup against Mauritius at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium in Mangaung on Tuesday.

Kick-off is at 15h00 CAT.

South Africa’s COSAFA Cup campaign got off to a rough start with a 1-0 loss to Mozambique before the hosts bounced back with a 2-0 victory over Zimbabwe.

Kabelo Dlamini and Ime Okon netted in the 40th and 78th minute respectively to give the hosts their first victory of the competition.

Bafana Bafana sit second in Group A on three points, one point behind group leaders Mozambique and one point ahead of Mauritius, with Zimbabwe at the bottom of the group on one point.

With only the group winners progressing to the semifinals, South Africa will need a win against Mauritius and for Mozambique to lose or be held to a draw by Zimbabwe if they are to advance.

Head coach Vela Khumalo was pleased with how his side responded against Zimbabwe after their loss to Mozambique and emphasised the importance of their upcoming clash.

“This is the boost that we needed,” said Khumalo, following his side’s victory.

“But what we set out for ourselves is that we need to win the remaining (group) game. We need to win against Mauritius and then we take it from there with the six points and see what happens from there,” he said.
