Williams’s valuable European experience
With the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations set to commence later this year, Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Ronwen Williams will no doubt be under the spotlight yet again.
The Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper played some of the best football of his career during the 2023 AFCON tournament, where he guided South Africa to a third-place finish in the tournament that was held in Cote d’Ivoire.
After the showpiece, Williams was awarded with the AFCON Best Goalkeeper award, while he was also included in the team of the tournament.
Furthermore, Williams won both the African Goalkeeper of the Year award and the African Inter-Club Player of the Year accolades in 2024.
As the experienced shot-stopper continues to shine on the African continent, did you know that Williams had a brief spell with English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur?
During his youth development phases, Williams turned out for Shatterprufe Rovers before making his way to Spurs academy.
However, William’s spell abroad was brief, as he did not make it up the ranks with the iconic English club.
The popular goalkeeper then returned home, where he established himself as one of the best emerging talents at SuperSport United in 2010.
