Tottenham’s Samual Archer aims for Bafana Bafana future
Tottenham Hotspur U-18 captain Samual Archer is reportedly looking to play for Bafana Bafana in the future.
The 18-year-old, who is eligible to represent South Africa has officially signed his first professional contract with the Premier League club.
The teenage goalkeeper was born in Hertford, England, while his mother is originally from Gauteng. In a statement released on their website on Tuesday, Spurs declared:
“We are delighted to announce that Samual Archer has signed his first professional contract with the Club.”
Archer has captained the club’s U-18 team this season, regularly starting matches and making his U-21 debut in November against Swindon Town’s senior squad in the Bristol Street Motors tournament.
Archer began his career at his hometown club, Hertford Town, before moving to the Tottenham Academy. Last season, in his first year as a full-time scholar with the north London club, he had a successful loan spell at non-league Barton Rovers.
Themba Mahlangu, who manages the SA Foreign Legion network, informed FARPost that the young player is eager to represent his mother’s country.
“He was born in England and has a South African mother,” Mahlangu said. “I’ve spoken to Sam. He still has family in Gauteng. But Sam hasn’t visited SA yet. He told me he’s interested in playing for Bafana if there’s an opportunity.”
This season, Archer has played in 14 league matches for Spurs’ U-18 team, which is currently in fourth place in the U-18 Premier League standings.
