Nyandeni prepares for final Banyana cap
Banyana Banyana will be in action once again for the second and final match of their international friendlies against Malawi at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.
Kick-off is at 15h00 CAT.
Following a commanding 3-0 victory in the first leg, the team aims to finish the series strong while also honouring the remarkable career of Nompumelelo Nyandeni, who will play her 150th and final match for the national team.
Nyandeni, a key figure in Banyana Banyana for nearly two decades since her debut at 15, will be celebrating the end of an era as one of South Africa’s most talented midfielders.
“I’m excited for my last dance. It will be the last time people see me wearing the Banyana Banyana kit,” said Nyandeni.
“I’m ready for the game and excited as well.”
Despite the emotional significance of today’s game, coach Desiree Ellis emphasised the team’s focus on refining their play in preparation for the 2025 WAFCON and the FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifiers.
“We want to improve in all aspects, especially the final third. We created a few opportunities in the first game but that needs to be better — and through that, we could have scored more goals,” said Ellis.
“Even though we know it’s not just about the goals, but rather the overall performance. I thought we were good in possession, but sometimes we gave the ball away, so that has to be better as well.”
