Ngezana draws attention from clubs in England and Italy

According to reports, Bafana Bafana and FCSB defender Siyabonga Ngezana has attracted attention from English League One side Birmingham City and Serie A side Lecce FC. The 27-year-old has enjoyed success in his career since departing from Kaizer Chiefs to join Romanian team FCSB at the beginning of the 2023/24 campaign. He won the league title with them, as well as the Super Cup in his first season and was also named the Defender and Best Foreign Player of the Season. Ngezana was also instrumental in the men’s national team’s qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations which is set to take place in Morocco at the end of this year. Romanian publication Digi Sport reports that Lecce and Birmingham City are interested in signing him, and they are both willing to pay the transfer fee for his services. Any future transfer could prove profitable for his former club, as Chiefs reportedly hold a 10% sell-on clause for the towering defender, whose current deal with FCSB runs until June 2027. Ngezana has credited AmaKhosi before for his success, saying that he wouldn’t be the player that he is today if it weren’t for his time at the Betway Premiership club. “Kaizer Chiefs played a big role in my life, on and off the field. I wouldn’t have been the person that I am today if it wasn’t for Kaizer Chiefs,” Ngezana told iDiski Times. “The opportunity that I got, if it wasn’t for Chiefs I wouldn’t be in Romania. I don’t think I’ve been here. And apart from that, throughout my career at Chiefs, in terms of facing some of the things. Playing for Kaizer Chiefs was one of my dreams and it came true. “I’m always going to be grateful for that opportunity. And, they built me a lot like they built me the person that I am today, in terms of character,” he added.
