Morocco keen to show off impressive infrastructure at AFCON draw
With the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on the horizon, host nation Morocco will use the upcoming draw as an opportunity to showcase their ‘excellent’ facilities that will be used at the tournament.
Excitement and anticipation has beamed over the continent in the last couple of months as nations prepare for the upcoming AFCON showpiece that will be held in Morocco between Sunday, 21 December 2025 and 18 January 2026.
The draw for the competition is scheduled to commence in Rabat on Monday the 27th of January at 6:00pm (GMT). Also, all 24 nations that have qualified for the showpiece will be in attendance on the night.
According to a CAF press release, qualified nations will be informed on venues and training facilities that will be in use later this year.
“The draw provides the National Teams with the opportunity to assess the excellent match venues, training facilities and hotel infrastructure in Morocco.” CAF expressed in a press release.
“Morocco will be hosing the finals for the first time since 1988 as we enter an exciting time for the North African nation, who are also co-hosts of the 2030 FIFA World Cup along with Spain and Portugal.”
The 24 nations will be slotted into six pools with each group holding four teams. The top two sides in each group will advance to the Round of 16 and the four best ‘third-placed’ nations will do likewise.
Also, the Mohammed v Stadium, Moulay Abdellah Stadium, Ibn Batouta Stadium, Adrar Stadium, Marrakech Stadium and Fez Stadium are expected to be utilized at the competition amongst other grounds.
The AFCON tournament will return to Morocco for the first time since 1988, after Zambia withdrew from hosting the event due to financial implications. While only eight teams competed for the crown, Cameroon reigned supreme after beating Nigeria in the final.
