Khoza thrilled with maiden Banyana Banyana call-up
Renniker Khoza is excited at the prospect of making her Banyana Banyana debut after receiving her maiden call-up for the June friendlies against Botswana and Zambia.
Khoza joined University of Fort Hare team-mate Michelle Sampson in Desiree Ellis’ squad for the two matches which serve as part of the national team’s preparations for the delayed 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The young striker has an opportunity to impress as Thembi Kgatlana will miss the encounters with the Mares and the Copper Queens through injury.
“To be honest, I feel happy, I’m so excited and encouraged, and thanks to the Banyana Banyana coach for giving me this chance to showcase my talent,” she said.
Sampson appears in South Africa’s set-up for the third time and University of Fort Hare Ladies’ coach Simphiwe Mefana has expressed pride in the two young women for achieving a milestone.
“This is not just a proud moment for the two appointees and their families, it is a historic and inspiring milestone for our entire university community,” Mefana said.
“It stands as a powerful testament to what is possible when talent meets dedication, when dreams are supported by hard work, and when institutions like ours believe in the potential of young athletes.
“At Fort Hare, we have long believed that excellence is born not only in well-known centers of sport, but also in institutions that nurture holistic growth, in mind, body, and spirit. Today’s achievement affirms that belief.”
