Ellis names final Banyana Banyana squad for European Tour

Banyana Banyana coach Dr Desiree Ellis has announced the squad consisting of 23 players which will take part in the European Tour from 21-31 October 2024. The South African women’s national football team will open their journey in the tour with a clash against Denmark on 25 October 2024 at the Aalborg Stadium. Then the team will travel to the United Kingdom where they’ll take on England on 29 October 2024. Since winning the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title in 2022, Banyana Banyana have caused a frenzy in South African sport, as more citizens began to pay attention to the women’s game. “We are preparing for the 2025 WAFCON, and we are very happy that we will be able to prepare against world class opposition,” says coach Ellis. “Denmark will give us the opportunity to work on our strength and areas that we struggle with against some African opponents.” “If you remember well, Senegal gave us very physical matches in our last international friendlies, and although I felt the players there dealt well with the situation, we need to work hard in building our players in those areas,” she added. “England and European Champions, and that on its own will be a great challenge for us, who also hold the title in Africa. We are looking forward to an exciting, fast paced, tactical match against a team we have watched before and a coach whose philosophy I know.” After their 31 October return to South Africa, Banyana Banyana will focus on their upcoming international friendly match against the Reggae Queens of Jamaica in November 2024. 23 player squad: Goalkeepers: Kaylin Swart, Andile Dlamini, Dineo Magagula Defenders: Karabo Dhlamini, Fikile Magama, Tiisetso Makhubela, Lonathemba Mhlongo, Bambanani Mbane, Lebohang Ramalepe Midfielders: Sibulele Holweni, Linda Motlhalo, Thubelihle Shamase, Nonhlanhla Mthandi, Nondumiso Manengela, Kholosa Biyana, Amogelang Motau Forwards: Themba Kgatlana, Nicole Michael, Noxolo Cesane, Hilda Magaia, Sinoxolo Cesane, Nthabiseng Majiya, Sphumelele Shamase
