Broos breaks silence on Percy Tau’s transfer move

Broos breaks silence on Percy Tau’s transfer move

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has spoken up and shared his thoughts about Percy Tau’s move to Qatari outfit Qatar SC. Tau had not been featuring for the national team in recent matches, and Broos says he is pleased that the player has left Egyptian club Al Ahly. It might be an opportunity for the forward to get back into the Bafana squad, as he was part of the AFCON 2023 squad that finished third in Ivory Coast. Tau has not featured for the national team since the second half of 2024. This was mainly due to the period of struggle he faced at Al Ahly where he had injuries and struggled for game time under Marcel Koller. There were also allegations of mistreatment from the coach. “I was already happy that he left Al Ahly. It’s a food thing for him,” Broos said according to Soccer Laduma. “We will see what happens with him in Qatar. I don’t think it’s such a big difference in level between Qatar and Egypt. “Egypt is better, yes but the most important thing for him is to play. He didn’t do that in the last year at Al Ahly. He was on the bench, he was injured and the coach did not put him in the team. I am happy that he changed teams and let’s hope he plays more now,” he added. Bafana Bafana will play their next matches in March, where they take on Lesotho and Benin in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. They are second in group C, level on points with Rwanda after four matches played.
