Bafana potentials set for Soweto Derby stage

Bafana potentials set for Soweto Derby stage

With Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs set to light up the FNB Stadium in the keenly anticipated Soweto Derby this weekend, here’s a look at three Bafana Bafana potentials that could be in action on Saturday. As seen in the likes of Patrick Maswanganyi, Relebohile Mofokeng and Rushwin Dortley, Pirates and Chiefs have been well represented in the South African team last year. However, with the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations set to commence later this year, coach Hugo Broos could have a relook at his side with more players hitting form for their clubs. BAFANA POTENTIALS Tshegofatso Mabasa – Orlando Pirates Despite being in impressive goal scoring form for Pirates in the last two seasons, Broos often overlooked the 28-year-old’s exploits. With nine goals to his name in 26 matches played this season, Mabasa continues to be an important figure in attack for Pirates and will hope to be a regular for the South African national team in near future. Samkelo Zwane – Kaizer Chiefs As a player who holds lofty standards, the 23-year-old midfielder is one to look out for in the future. While he was criticized for inconsistent form and performances in the past, Zwane remains one of the best young midfielders in the PSL currently. Mfundo Vilakazi – Kaizer Chiefs At the age of 19, Vilakazi swiftly earned himself heroic status at Naturena this season. The technically sound left-footer often showed up when Chiefs needed a spark of brilliance this season, which could well spark interest from Broos in the coming months.
