Amajita learn U-20 AFCON opponents

South Africa’s men’s national U-20 team has been drawn alongside Egypt, Zambia, Sierra Leone, and Tanzania in Group A of the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) which kicks off later this month.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) was forced to conduct a second group stage draw for the tournament after Ivory Coast withdrew as both hosts and competitors. They were replaced by Tunisia as competitors, and Egypt as hosts.

As a result of the reshuffle, Amajita found themselves in five-team Group A alongside the hosts, Zambia, Sierra Leone, and Tanzania.

Group B comprises Nigeria, Tunisia, Kenya and Morocco, while Group C features Senegal, Central African Republic, DR Congo and Ghana.

Amajita will now feature in the tournament opener against Egypt on Sunday 27 April, before facing Tanzania on Wednesday 30 April; Sierra Leone on Tuesday 6 May; and Zambia on Friday 9 May.

South Africa will hope to at least reach the semifinals, which will earn them a place at the U-20 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in Chile in September and October of this year.
