Amajimbos begin preparations for U17 AFCON in Morocco
South Africa’s national under-17 team has started its preparations for the 2025 CAF U17 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Morocco.
The team nicknamed Amajimbos are Group B in the continental showpiece which will be hosted by Morocco between 30 March and 19 April.
Amajimbos will have to get past Burkina Faso, Egypt and Cameroon in North Africa, where 10 nations will qualify for the 2025 FIFA U17 World Cup finals.
Coach Vela Khumalo’s side will need to finish in the top two positions in the group in order to book a place in the quarter-finals for automatic qualification for the World Cup.
The team that finished third in the group would progress to the playoffs, where the two finalists will qualify for the World Cup to be held in Qatar between 5 and 27 November 2025.
South Africa will go head to head with Egypt on 31 March, before taking on Cameroon on 3 April and a clash against Burkina Faso on 6 April will wrap their Group B campaign.
Amajita played a friendly match against Wydad AC under-19 team, which was organised by the Moroccan club’s South African head coach, Rhulani Mokwena.
Khumalo and his charges have turned their attention to their crucial group opener against Egypt.
