Radebe’s legacy continues as the “Godfather of South African football”
Bafana Bafana legend Lucas Radebe may no longer be a professional footballer, but he continues to shine as the years go by.
The former Leeds United defender is on the cover of Gentlemen’s Quarterly (GQ) South Africa for the March/April Sports Issue in collaboration with Lays South Africa.
The post caption on Instagram reads: “From his unforgettable days on the field to his continued impact in the world of football, Lucas Radebe has earned his place as one of South Africa’s greatest athletes.”
“His leadership, skill, and dedication to the game have left a lasting legacy that continues to inspire generations. In this issue, Lucas reflects on his football journey from Soweto to global stardom, his lifelong passion for the game, creating success both on and off the field, family, and the notion of legacy.”
Radebe graces the cover of the magazine wearing a beige fitted suit and grey coat to compliment the look. He’s also wearing a stunning watch and white sneakers as he poses with a soccer ball.
The 55-year-old also had an article written about him in Glamour Magazine, a publication aimed at women, where he’s described as “Man Candy” for his style and good looks.
A snippet from the article states: “Even years after hanging up his boots, he’s still affectionately known as the “Captain of the Nation”, a title that speaks volumes about his impact on and off the field. From football excellence to social advocacy, he remains an inspiration – one that Glamour is honoured to celebrate.”
Radebe has continued to be in the spotlight long after retirement, and also features in TV ads for Discovery Insure – showing that he knows how to “secure the bag” beyond football.
