Banyana’s Motlhalo returns “home” to Glasgow
Banyana Banyana midfielder Linda Motlhalo has made a return to Glasgow City FC, and expressed excitement to be back in Europe.
Earlier this month, Racing Louisville, a club in the US Women’s National Soccer League, announced that they had mutually agreed to part ways with Motlhalo.
This took place after the player only made three appearances for the club across all competitions, putting an end to a frustrating spell for the 26-year-old.
She then made a brief return to South Africa, her home country as a free agent to train with former Banyana captain Janine van Wyk’s side, the JVW Academy.
Motlhalo was unveiled as a new player at Glasgow City, a club she previously played for in the Scottish women’s top-flight not long afterwards.
“I’m so happy to be back, this place brings back a lot of great memories,” she said as she re-joined the club.
“I’ve come at a time when it’s really hectic, and I’ve just come in from off-season, so it’s going to be demanding for me to catch up. But I’ve been watching the games and I like the direction where the team is going.”
The talented midfielder also showed appreciation for Janine van Wyk for helping her stay in shape at a time of uncertainty in her career.
“From the start of my relationship with Glasgow City, she has always been there for me, and even now, I really appreciate her,” she added.
