Bafana stars to watch – Williams, Mofokeng and Basadien to set CAF competition alight
With the CAF Champions League and Confederations Cup semi-finals on the horizon, here are some Bafana Bafana stars to look out for this weekend.
Mamelodi Sundowns – Ronwen Williams
Williams has consistently solidified his status as one of the best goalkeepers on the African continent during the last couple of years. With Sundowns playing Al Ahly in their first-leg, CAF Champions League semi-final clash on Saturday, Williams will also be required to lead his team from the 18-yard-area, a role in which he often thrived in during high-pressure encounters.
Orlando Pirates – Relebohile Mofokeng
With four goals in 11 CAF Champions League games this season, the Pyramids defenders will no doubt keep a keen eye on Mofokeng on Saturday evening. Also, with Pyramids currently on a three-match winless streak in all competitions, Mofokeng will be licking his lips at the prospect of facing a seemingly shaky defence this weekend.
Stellenbosch FC – Fawaaz Basadien
As one of the best defenders in the PSL currently, Basadien’s defensive prowess will come in handy when Stellies face an efficient Simba outfit over two legs in the CAF Confederations Cup semi-finals. Given his exploits within the national team fold, Basadien has also shown that he can handle the pressure at the highest level on the African continent.
